The opening of the regular turkey
season illustrated that the harsh winter was no match for the rugged
NH turkey. A total of six large gobblers met their final demise with
Northern NH Guide Services over the weekend. Pics are still coming in
from up north, I'll post them as soon as I get them.
Long time friend of NNHGS, Barrett
Moulton of Belmont, NH took this great Tom opening day.
Barrett's gobbler weighed 20.5 lbs, 8.5" beard and 1" spurs.
Sweeet!
Fifteen year-old Natalie Bergeron and
her eight year-old brother Jay Bergeron of Berlin, NH braved the early
morning hours of the 2008 youth weekend turkey hunt. Despite waking up
several hours earlier than they normally would on a school day, the
last weekend of their school vacation proved to be a memorable
one.
Under the quiet coaching of his Uncle
Keith, Jay managed to take a great mature Tom on the opening morning.
Jay's bird weighed 20 lbs. had an 8" beard and 7/8" spurs.
Nice job Jay! As you can see in the photo gallery, if Jay's grin was
any bigger, he'd need a bigger head!
Sitting shoulder to shoulder inside the
blind was grandfather Leo Roberge when Nat had her patience tested
Saturday morning. Two very lucky and agile Tom's managed to dodge her
pellets. Shaken but not stirred, Nat proved that the third time was a
charm when she took a 15-pound Jake on Sunday morning with an extraordinarily
long 6" beard and 1/4" spurs.
Clients of Northern NH Guide Services
certainly know what "hot" on the trail of a NH Moose was
like this year. Unseasonably hot weather for the start of the 20th
annual NH moose hunt made spotting NH Moose a difficult task.
Temperatures climbed into the mid-70's and on Monday it reached
82-degress. "This weather had certainly effected the moose and
their activities."
Chief Guide Keith Roberge said. The moose were not moving during the
day which was not typical for the late October season.
Despite the weather, NNHGS hunters
still managed to be in the right spot at the right time to take their
trophies.
Bill
Lee made the trek all the way from Owenton, Kentucky to take this
great bull about 50-minutes after the start of the season. He wrote
that he is please to have the freezer full of NH moose.
Rick
Caron and Doug Macgee of Bow, NH took this great bull on the third
evening of the hunt. This bull weighed in at 750 lbs. and had a
46" antler spread.
Returning
NNHGS moose hunter Albert Fini Jr. and his father, Albert Fini Sr. of
New York took this beautiful 600-pound bull on the 1st day of the
hunt.

Freshman Guide Chris Norton was with
fourteen year-old Cuinn McConnell when he made a spectacular 344 yard
shot to fell this young bull moose. He and his dad, Robert McConnell
of Effingham, NH hunted hard for five days before their perseverance
paid off. Nice job guys!
Our own guide, David Noyes was
fortunate to draw a moose
permit for WMU zone-B. He and his step-brother and subpermitee Gary
Lafoe of Wentworth Location, NH managed to take a great bull. Dave and
Gary's bull weighed 820-pounds, was aged at 5-1/2 years-old, and had a
rack 50" wide.
There was a total of 675 moose permits
issued for the 2007 NH Moose hunt. Nine of those hunters were with
Northern NH Guide Services.
More pictures and video of all these
trophies and the stories behind them coming soon. Visit
the photo gallery.
